7:30 PM George Baird: “Thoughts on the Influence of Finnish Design in Canada since the 1950’s”
George Baird is Emeritus Professor of Architecture, and the former dean of the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto. He is the founding principal of the firm Baird Sampson Neuert Architects. Prior to becoming Dean at the University of Toronto in 2004, Baird was the G. Ware Travelstead Professor of Architecture at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University. He has published and lectured widely throughout most parts of the world. Baird first visited Finland as a member of the 1959 Hart House Finnish Exchange, and returned in the summer of 1961. His interpretive essay on Alvar Aalto (1969) is one of the earliest cultural interpretations of Aalto’s work.
