H.E. VESA LEHTONEN – AMBASSADOR OF FINLAND TO CANADA
H.E. Vesa Lehtonen was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Ottawa, Canada in 2016. Between 2012 and 2016 he was the Deputy Director-General for Personnel within the Administrative Services division of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
H.E. Vesa Lehtonen was previously (2011-2012) the Director of the division’s Personnel Unit, the Head of the division’s Personnel Services (2008-2011), a Counsellor of the Personnel Unit (2007-2008) a Counsellor of the Central and South-eastern European Unit (2001-2004) at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki.
In the Diplomatic Service, he has served in the Embassies of Finland in Rome and Stockholm.
He started his diplomatic career as an attaché at the Foreign Ministry’s Development Co-operation and External Trade departments (1995-1996).
H.E. Vesa Ilmari Lehtonen received his master’s degree from the University of Turku in 1991. He is married with four children.
