OLAVI VIRTA

Olavi Virta (by Timo Koivusalo, 2018) tells a story of one of the most loved singers of Finland and “The King of Finnish Tango” – Olavi Virta (1915–1972). During his career between 1930s and 1950s, Virta recorded more than 600 songs, such as Finnish classics Hopeinen kuu and Kultainen nuoruus. He was a member of the famous vocal ensemble Kipparikvartetti. Olavi Virta was also known for his love for women, which resulted in divorce and separation from his children. After years of success, Virta spent the last years of his life fighting against alcoholism and poverty.
Olavi Virta (2018) is Timo Koivusalo’s 17th film.
