Canadian Friends of Finland (Toronto)
Devoted to the promotion of friendship, understanding and cooperation between the peoples of Canada and Finland.
Saturday November 7, 2015, 1-4 p.m.
The seminar will be hosted by Rick Phillips, the former host, and producer of, CBC Radio’s Sound Advice, the weekly guide to classical music and recordings.
Much is made about the similarities between the people of northern climes like Scandinavia, Russia, and Canada. The symphonies by the legendary Finnish composer Jean Sibelius are famous for their suggestions of mists, hoar frosts and icy landscapes. Bridging the gap between 19th and 20th century music, Sibelius’s romanticism is unique – dark and brooding at times, joyous and colourful at others, wrapped up in music of great sweep and epic power.
Please take this opportunity to add to your musical knowledge and enhance your enjoyment of great music by one of the world’s great composers.
